Interdisciplinary Studies in Letters & Science

Logging into Blackboard

Chabot College - Spring 2006 Program

This term to enhance your opportunities for learning and exploration, the ISLS team offers an online discussion forum using Blackboard, accessible 24/7 from anywhere.  You can use the system to post questions, collaborate with other students, discuss and share thoughts about the books we are reading and their authors, share links or news relevant to the course – almost anything.  This is not a real-time chat system like AOL’s Instant Messenger; it is an asynchronous, archived discussion where your posts can be read by others, and their replies read by you.  Please note that participation in the online discussion forum will not substitute for your attendance and participation in large and small group. But if you cannot make it to class, you might find that the discussion forum can help you stay in touch with what was shared.

Step 1: Go to the Blackboard login page:

Go to the login page http://clpccd.blackboard.com. Click the Login button.

Step 2: Enter your username and password:

Username: Your User Identification Number, which is a unique number

beginning with a W and containing 8 digits.

Password:  The first two letters of your first name, followed by the first two

letters of your last name (all lowercase), followed by the last four

digits of your User Identification Number.

Example:    Maria Valdez with a User Identification Number of W12345678

       would log in as:

       Username: W12345678

Password: mava5678 (all lowercase letters + last four digits)

  Click Login.

Step 3: Access your course site(s)

You should be at the ”My Institution” page (if you’re not sure if you’re at this page, click the “My Institution” tab at the top left). Look to the far right under “My Courses” and click on the ISLS course link to enter our course site. Once in the site, click on DISCUSSION to participate in the ongoing ISLS discussions.

Step 4: (Optional) Enter your e-mail address and change your password

  1. Once you are in Blackboard, look on the left-hand side of the screen for a list of “Tools” menu items. Click on the last item Personal Information.
  2. Click Edit Personal Information.
  3. Enter your e-mail address, deleting the generic one that is there. This will be your email address for the entire Blackboard system. You can change this email address at any time.
  4. Click Submit, then at the next screen, click OK.
  5. You will be taken back to the Personal Information page. Click Change Password.
  6. Enter your own unique password in both password fields.
  7. Click Submit at the bottom. At the next two screens, click OK.

If you forget your password, click on “Forgot Password” or “Chabot Distance Education Support” links at the login screen. For help and more information, go to http://www.chabotcollege.edu/DistanceEd/

What will you see:

I’ve set up three (3) different discussion areas; we can add more as the term develops.  You can post notes to these, ask questions about what happened on days you might have missed, or just carry on more conversations about the authors, books, and topics we are exploring.

Large Group DiscussionThis forum can be used to continue or expand upon the discussion we have in large group. Feel free to ask questions that weren't addressed, take issue with what was shared, or re-hash confusing points. Please treat the discussion board, and one-another, respectfully. Anonymous posts are possible here, as long as they pertain to the discussions at hand and do not offer inappropriate remarks.

Questions & Comments about the Reading - This forum can be used for any questions about the books and authors we are reading this term. If you have questions about particular passages, interpretations, or essay questions on our books, ask them here!

 and…

Questions & Comments about ISLS - Here you can ask questions or offer comments about ISLS itself. Questions about transferring units, or grading, or evaluations, etc. should be asked here.

What else is possible?
