The Nature of Science

The scientific method allows ordinary people to do extraordinary things - Francis Bacon

Work with a partner on this. Introduce yourself, and as a team come up with your best answers to the following questions. Note that there are many possible valid answers, not just one.

1. Picture a scientist, and in particular, picture an "astronomer". Describe to your partner what that person looks like, including how they dress. How does that person acts? Be as detailed as you can about their characteristics, and list those characteristics here:

2. Could you be a scientist? Do you think you have the "right" characteristics? What qualities do you have that would be useful in science? What qualities do you think you have that would not be useful in science?

3. You might already have heard about, or used, the "scientific method." How do you think the process of science works? That is, how would a scientist actually do the job ? (Your answer could refer to any science, not just astronomy.) Describe that process here, in a few sentences, or in an ordered list (e.g. "First a scientist would do ...., and next they would ..., etc.)
