Welcome to Pam's Online Course information page

This page contains information for those interested in taking an online course with me and for those already registered in any of my courses. The sections of English 1A and English 7 listed here are all online courses, conducted entirely online except for two required on campus meetings each semester. Please note that if you do not attend the mandatory orientation meeting for any given section you may be dropped from the course (even if you are already enrolled).

Summer 2008

There are two required texts for the English 1A online summer 2008 sections sections listed here:

1. Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum (9th Edition) by Lawrence Behrens and Leonard J. Rosen

2. Fast Food Nation by Eric Scholsser

 

All of these courses also have required films (TBA). Please note: To take any of these online courses, you must have access to the following: a computer running either Windows 98 or higher or Macintosh OS 8.0 or higher, Internet access, Netscape Navigator 6.0 or higher or Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, a working email account, and a word-processing program such as Microsoft Word. We will be using the Blackboard online learning platform for this course. These online courses are recommended for students who have at least some prior experience with computers, email, and using the Internet.

 

If you are interested in taking an online course:

You should be familiar, or at least comfortable with:

  • Using the Internet, a Web browser, and Email
  • Managing your time effectively
  • Working on your own with minimal supervision
  • Communicating with others in writing
