Ethnicity and Race – A cultural observation – Note this is a change

Your view of ethnicity

What is your view of ethnicity? What is it? How does it differ from race, if there is any difference? What do you “identify” as, if anything? Are there questions you confront in applying this construct to yourself? Other than being “just me” how would you “identify”? How are you “identified” by others?

2. Due April 3

Views on Race and Ethnicity

a. The goal here is to discuss with your cultural guide to get her or his perspective on this question? What is their view of how people are categorized? What categories does he or she use when referring to people or categorizing them? (If they lived someplace else, what were the categories there?) Do they classify people by race or ethnicity? What is the significance of these divisions? What do they identify as? How do others categorize them? What if someone in his or her close family “married out”? (These are just suggested questions.) Have they experienced racism or prejudice based on their grouping? (Maybe get a story….)
