After receiving her B.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Redlands, she attended St. Mary's College where she received her M.F.A. She served as writer in residence at the Arad Arts Project in Arad, Israel in 1995. She has been teaching at Chabot College for the past 8 years; she also teaches at Saint Mary's College, where in addition to teaching Composition, she has taught a cross-disciplinary course, Poems as Visual Objects, examining the intersection of poetry and visual art. Her students' artwork, created during former classes, is archived in the webpage for Gallery 160 at St. Mary's College.
