Thou Shalt Not

Commit Plagiarism

  • Thou shalt never use the exact words from a source without placing quotation marks (" ") around them.
  • Thou shalt always give credit to a source when using ideas, information, or words from that source.
  • Thou shalt give credit to a source even when using thy own words to express the idea or information.
  • When paraphrasing a source, thou shalt ensure that thy words and sentences are significantly different from the original source (not simply a few words changed).
  • Thou shalt provide a bibliographic page at the end of thy paper to inform readers about thy sources.
  • Thou shalt never rely upon another to do thy work for thee.

Punishment for violations of these commands may be swift and severe.
