Catalog Description:

Nursing 56 – Essentials of Nursing Care Related to Human Growth and Development. 0.5 units.

Overview of human growth and development from infancy to late adulthood with continuation throughout the nursing program. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Nursing Program, or concurrent enrollment in another nursing program, or with the consent of the instructor. Lecture: 1 hour; 9 weeks.

Required Textbook:

Potter & Perry, 2004, (6th Edition). Fundamentals of Nursing, St. Louis, C.V. Mosby.

Required Materials:

Use of a computer (Chabot College Library/Computer Lab/Home)

Lecture Schedule, Textbook Assignments & Due Dates:

All lecture reading assignments will come from the required textbook. Please have these readings completed prior to the lecture sessions. Reading the material ahead of time will make the lecture meetings much easier to understand and follow. The following is a tentative schedule and may be subject to change.

Grading for this Class:

Worksheets /quizzes= 30%

Mid-term 30%

Final exam = 40%

Total = 100 points

 

A = 90 – 100 points     Excellent Work

B = 80-89 points          Good Work

C = 70 –79 points        Average Work

D = less than 70 points Failing

 

Also counted into grading will be:

Class attendance

Class participation

Tardiness

 

Should a student be caught cheating during an examination or involved in plagiarism, an F will be assigned for the examination, paper or assignment.

Expected Student Behavior in the Classroom

Students are expected to turn off all pagers, cell phones and other electronic devices during class time.

Students are expected to pay attention and participate in class meetings.

Students may not read other materials (newspapers, magazines) during class.
