About Mrs. Cal...This is my second year of teaching at Chabot College after almost ten years of working in the field of health and wellness. My experience includes wellness coaching and a variety of health education work for such companies as: Sutter Health, Kaiser Permanente, Sun Microsystems, PeopleSoft, and Alameda County, among others. My writing experience includes various health articles, a regular stint as Contributing Writer for Southern California Tennis & Golf Magazine, and author of the book, WEIGHT WHYS, which is used as the text for Health 16 - Healthy Weight Loss. My education includes a Master of Science degree in exercise physiology and a Bachelor of Science in exercise, nutrition, & wellness, both from California State University, Hayward. I’m also a certified Lifestyle & Weight Management Consultant through the American Council of Exercise and a member of the American College of Sports Medicine. I currently teach Health 1 on-campus two days a week and an online Healthy Weight Loss course that I developed for Chabot. As a professional speaker, I also speak at conferences and to other groups on weight management and various health/personal growth topics. I limit my work to part-time so that I can be a stay-at-home mom to my four children, who are 7, 5, 3, and 1. One last thing I’d like to share about myself is that I love teaching and I'm very passionate about helping others learn to take better care of themselves—physically, emotionally, and spiritually, so they can reach their true potential. I also enjoy talking with students who may be interesting in becoming a health professional themselves to help them discover what field and college/career opportunities might be best suited for them.
